GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Sept. 12, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.

Agency Assist, Sept. 12, Highway 387 and Cosner Road, CCSO

Deputies responded to a crash near Highway 387 and Cosner Road shortly after noon on Thursday. The crash involved one semi truck that had rolled onto its passenger side in the road. The driver, a 44-year-old man, had a cut above his eye from the crash, but refused medical attention. The Wyoming Highway Patrol arrived on scene and took over the case, dismissing deputies who had begun directing traffic around the crash.

Drugs, Sept. 12, Desert Hills Circle, CCSO

Deputies approached a man in a 2021 Ram truck on Desert Hills Circle Thursday afternoon after noticing the car was not only parked illegally, but also had a window tint darker than legally allowed in Wyoming. After a K-9 indicated on a sniff of the outside of the truck, officers searched the vehicle and found hypodermic needles, a scale, empty jeweler’s bags and a torch.

The search also revealed a .22 revolver pistol with ammo, though it was unclear if the gun was actually loaded at the time, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. When searching the driver, a 35-year-old man, deputies found two syringes of suspected meth in his pockets. The man was arrested for possession charges and weapons charges, as he had prior violence-related felonies that barred him from owning a gun.

Weapons Offense, Sept. 12, Nathan Hale Road, CCSO

A 74-year old man was cited for animal cruelty after shooting his neighbor’s dog from his porch while it was on his property. The dog suffered non-life-threatening injuries to its back leg from the shot, which came from a Remington 870 12-gague shotgun. The man reportedly had had repeated issues with his neighbor, a 53-year-old man, and the dog being loose on his property. The dog was not reported to have been harassing livestock at the time of the shooting or any time previous. The breed or sex of the dog was not recorded in the report, only that it was a small dog with brown fur.

Battery, Sept. 12, Twin Spruce Junior High, GPD

Staff at Twin Spruce Junior High contacted the Gillette Police Department after a fight between two students at the school. According to staff, a 13-year-old girl instigated a fight between her and a 15-year-old boy by pushing him in the back and punching him multiple times. He retaliated and pushed back at the girl before punching her in the face. The students have not yet been contacted for follow-up to the incident.
