Campbell County Fire Dept. Report (9/10/24–9/11/24)

GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Campbell County Fire Department responded to the following incidents on Tuesday, Sept. 10:

  • At 1:37 a.m. to East Lincoln Street for a medical emergency.
  • At 4:57 a.m. to the 300 block of East Lakeway Road for an activated fire alarm.
  • At 1:03 p.m. to Sammye Avenue for a hazmat investigation.
  • At 3:52 p.m. for a report of smoke from a single tree burning in the Horse Creek Road/Collins Road area. Crews investigated and found smoke 3/4 of a mile inside of the existing fire lines of the Constitution fire and inside of a previously burned area.
  • At 5:06 p.m. to North Gurley Avenue for a medical emergency.

The fire department responded to the following incidents on Wednesday, Sept. 11:

  • At 12:30 a.m. to West Hills Loop for an emergency medical response.
  • At 10:07 a.m. to the 1000 block of Comanche Avenue for an activated fire alarm.
  • At 10:11 a.m. to Republic Lane for an activated fire alarm.
  • At 11:07 a.m. to South Butler Spaeth Avenue for an emergency medical response.
  • At 12:46 p.m. to the 600 block of South Garner Lake Road for an odor investigation.
  • At 1:50 p.m. to Bay Horse Road for a timber fire. The fire is named the Short Draw Fire, is currently unknown acreage and has burned into Montana.
  • At 2:35 p.m. to the intersection of Highway 51 and South Garner Lake Road for a two-vehicle collision.
  • At 3:48 p.m. to Bitter Creek Road for a report of a timber fire. Firefighters were unable to locate a fire in the area.
  • At 4:38 p.m. to the intersection of Lakeway Road and South 4-J Road for a two-vehicle collision.
  • At 5:56 p.m. to the 600 block of South Kendrick Avenue for a gas odor investigation.
  • At 6:43 p.m. to Gargoyle Peak Court for a report of a grass fire. Firefighters located clouds of ash that were stirred up by strong winds from the Flat Rock Fire.
  • At 7:52 p.m. to East Longmont Street for an emergency medical response.
  • At 8 p.m. to the area of Bay Horse Road for a report of a timber fire. It was determined that this was the Short Draw Fire.
  • At 9:36 p.m. to mile marker 110 on Interstate 90 for a report of smoke in the area. Firefighters were unable to locate a fire in the area.
  • At 11:15 p.m. to Wilderness Drive for an emergency medical response.

“Campbell County received a lot of lightning overnight and into the morning. Strong winds will persist throughout the day today. If you live or work in rural areas of the county, be vigilant and report any signs of smoke,” the report said. “Winds will continue to stir ash from all previous fires and create large ash clouds that can look like smoke at times.”

Year to date, the Campbell County Fire Department has responded to 2,357 requests for service.
