C17 Crime Clips for Thursday, Sept. 12

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Sept. 11, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Assault, Sept. 11, Camel Drive, GPD

Officers were dispatched to Campbell County High School around 12:22 p.m. to investigate a reported assault, Gillette Police Capt. Jason Marcus said. According to the report, a 17-year-old boy became upset over vaping remarks made by a 15-year-old boy. The older boy then assaulted the 15-year-old, resulting in a lip injury, a bruised eyebrow and a bloody nose. The investigation is ongoing.

Crash, Sept. 11, Highway 51, GPD

A 27-year-old man was cited for a red light violation after he reportedly failed to stop at Highway 51 and North Garner Lake Road, resulting in a two-vehicle crash around 2:34 p.m., Marcus said. The man was eastbound on Highway 51 in a 2021 Ford when his phone fell off the center console. He was reaching to retrieve it and failed to see a red light. The Ford T-boned a 2023 GMC operated by a 43-year-old man, resulting in over $1,000 in damage and no injuries.

Hit-and-run, Sept. 11, Lime Creek Avenue, GPD

Officers responded to Lime Creek Avenue after a 64-year-old man called to report discovering someone crashed into his fence around 3:19 p.m., Marcus said. Approximately 20 feet of vinyl fencing was damaged sometime before the man returned home at 3 p.m. Officers have identified a possible suspect vehicle with damage consistent with the crash, and the investigation is ongoing.

Drugs, Sept. 11, Ledoux Avenue, GPD

Apartment staff on Ledoux Avenue called the police at 4:03 p.m. to report finding suspected drugs in a unit they were cleaning, Marcus said. Officers seized around 1.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine and assorted paraphernalia. The investigation is ongoing.

Burglary, Sept. 11, Exchange Avenue, GPD

A 32-year-old man called the police to Exchange Avenue around 5:22 p.m. after discovering his storage unit had been burglarized, Marcus said. Unknown suspects reportedly took over $1,000 in hunting equipment and ammunition. The investigation is ongoing.

Drugs, Sept. 11, Huntington Drive, GPD

Officers arrested a 39-year-old man for drug possession after he was reported as a suspicious person parked near Huntington Drive and Westover Road around 5:38 p.m., Marcus said. The man was in a vehicle’s driver’s seat when officers arrived. The man displayed signs of recent drug use, dropped a syringe after he stepped away from the vehicle, and admitted to having drugs. Officers reportedly seized a gram of suspected methamphetamine. The man was charged with drug use and two counts of drug possession, one for liquid meth and the other for crystal meth.

Drugs, Sept. 11, Highway 387, CCSO

Deputies cited a 25-year-old man for possessing marijuana following a traffic stop near Highway 387 and Highway 50 around 9:32 p.m., Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The man was operating a 2025 Honda Civic and was stopped for speeding.
