C17 Crime Clips for Wednesday, Sept. 11

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Sept. 10, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Property destruction, Sept. 10, North Gurley Avenue, GPD

A 28-year-old woman called the police at 9:32 a.m. to report finding a door had been kicked off its hinges and otherwise destroyed at a recently purchased residence on North Gurley Avenue, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. The door was last seen intact on Sept. 9, and a 61-year-old man was the last to leave the residence after being evicted. Repairs were estimated at $100, and the investigation is ongoing.

Hit-and-run, Sept. 10, Richards Avenue, GPD

Officers responded to the intersection of Richards Avenue and East 4th Street after a 66-year-old man called to report witnessing a motorist strike a stop sign around 2:14 p.m., Wasson said. The man said an older, brown Nissan Pathfinder struck the sign and knocked it over. Other witnesses reported hearing the crash and said a woman left the scene after claiming vehicle trouble prevented her from stopping in time to avoid the crash. According to the report, damage from the crash was estimated to be under $1,000, and the investigation is ongoing.

Fraud, Sept. 10, South Douglas Highway, GPD

Officers responded to a grocery store on South Douglas Highway after staff called to report suspicious purchases by a 69-year-old man around 3:23 p.m. Sept. 10, Wasson said. Staff said the man bought $3,500 in gift cards. Officers learned from the man that he was contacted by individuals telling him his identity had been stolen and that any money he sent to them would be kept safe. The man had given the individuals the card information by the time officers spoke with him, and the investigation is ongoing.

Dog bite, Sept. 10, Dogwood Avenue, GPD

A 37-year-old woman was cited for having a vicious animal after her dog reportedly bit a 6-year-old girl on the face at a Dogwood Avenue residence, Wasson said. The girl was taken by privately owned vehicle to the walk-in clinic at Campbell County Health for a laceration above her right eye. The dog was impounded by city animal control.

Crash, Sept. 10, South Douglas Highway, GPD

A 29-year-old man was transported to the hospital after reportedly injuring his leg in a motorcycle crash at a South Douglas Highway fueling station around 10:53 p.m., Wasson said. The man said he took his friend’s 2021 Kawasaki for a ride and crashed it in the fueling station parking lot. The report available on Sept. 11 did not specify if any citations were issued.

Intoxication, Sept. 11, Highway 14-16, GPD

Officers arrested a 30-year-old woman for intoxication after she reportedly used loud and profane language at an inn on Highway 14-16 around 1:49 a.m., Wasson said. The woman was reportedly arguing with a 36-year-old man, with witnesses reporting hearing and seeing her assault her boyfriend, a 41-year-old man, who refused to cooperate with the investigation. The woman physically resisted officers when they tried to separate the woman from the 36-year-old man. She was screaming profanities loud enough to disturb other guests and was subsequently taken into custody.
