GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Sept. 5, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Interference, Sept. 5, Airport Road, CCSO
Deputies responded to the Northeast Wyoming Regional Airport on Thursday after they and emergency medical services were requested for a intoxicated passenger. The man, 44, had tried to bring several shooters of Fireball through security. When staff had given him the chance to put the alcohol in his car as it could not be brought on the plane, the man instead took the shooters to the men’s bathroom, where he drank all of them.
The specific number of shooter bottles or amount of whiskey he drank in total was not included in the incident report, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. After consuming the alcohol, the man passed out on the floor of the airport and was still heavily intoxicated when deputies and EMS arrived. He was uncooperative and refused to leave the airport despite staff trespassing him from the property for the day. He was too intoxicated to answer basic questions from officers and also refused to hand over his car keys to his wife, 43, so she could get the pair home safely. He was arrested for trespassing and interference.
Theft, Sept. 5, South Douglas Highway, GPD
Asset protection staff at Walmart contacted police after a 35-year-old woman returned stolen jewelry in exchange for a cash refund. The woman had also swapped the price tags of the stolen jewelry, purchasing them for a lower price than listed and getting the real value of the rings, $391.65, in return.
When questioned by officers the woman said she had not stolen anything and allowed a search of her vehicle, which turned up not only one of the stolen rings but small amounts of marijuana and meth, for which she received misdemeanor possession charges in addition to a theft charge.
Bar Fight and DUI, East Lakeway Road, Sept. 5, GPD
A couple at the Lakeside Lounge Thursday evening were involved in two separate incidents in the area after getting into a fight at the bar. First, a man, 40, struck a 43-year-old man at the bar after the latter had made rude comments about his wife. When officers arrived at 9:41 p.m., the 40-year-old had left the bar, and the man he struck declined to press charges.
A short time later, a 2006 Jeep registered to the 40-year-old was pulled over by officers as he was the suspect in the earlier incident. The car, driven by his wife, was stopped at Albertsons. Officers smelled alcohol from the vehicle, and the 35-year-old woman admitted she had been drinking and was arrested for DUI after failing a field sobriety test. Her husband was not in the car with her at the time of the arrest.
