GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Sept. 4, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Fraud, Sept. 4, Saunders Boulevard, GPD
Officers responded to an address on Saunders Boulevard to investigate a fraud report from a 43-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man around 4:28 p.m., Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. The man reported discovering a charge on his credit card for $5,000 supposedly made in New Jersey and another $3,500 to a gambling website. The man contacted his bank and has recouped the $5,000, but is currently out the remaining $3,500. The investigation is ongoing.
Eluding, Sept. 4, Foothills Boulevard, CCSO
A man wanted for prior eluding offenses escaped capture again after deputies attempted to stop him on Echeta Road around 8:53 p.m., Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The man was astride a 2001 Yamaha motorcycle and fled when a deputy turned around to contact him. He fled at a high rate of speed down Foothills Boulevard and proceeded onto Highway 14-16, where he continued onto Highway 50 at 140 mph. Deputies lost sight of the man after he turned onto Force Road and fled at 150 mph. The man is wanted for, now, at least two eluding offenses, reckless driving and driving under suspension.
False identification, Sept. 4, South Douglas Highway, GPD
A 20-year-old woman was warned for attempting to use a fake ID to purchase alcohol at a bar on South Douglas Highway around 9:13 p.m., Wasson said. Bar staff called the police after suspecting the woman was presenting a false ID, which she admitted was false after officers arrived.
DWUI, Sept. 5, East Highway 14-16, GPD
Officers arrested a 22-year-old man for impaired driving after observing him operating a 2003 Ford sedan without headlights on East Highway 14-16 around 2:01 a.m., Wasson said. Officers could smell alcohol while speaking with the man, and took the man into custody for DWUI after he failed field sobriety tests. The man was also found to have an active arrest warrant for failing to pay fines.
DWUI, Sept. 5, South Miller Avenue, GPD
A 44-year-old man was arrested for impaired driving after officers reportedly found him sleeping in a stopped 2023 GMC at the intersection of South Miller Avenue and East 3rd Street around 2:41 a.m., Wasson said. The man smelled of alcohol and admitted to drinking before driving to the intersection. He attempted field sobriety tests but was ultimately taken into custody.
