GILLETTE, Wyo. — Summertime temperatures will take a break today, courtesy of a strong cool front pushing through Wyoming.
The National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, has forecast a high today of 73 degrees under sunny skies. It won’t be near as windy as Wednesday either, with a northwest breeze at 8–17 mph. Gusts could reach 23 mph. Tonight will be mostly clear as the low falls to around 47. Winds will die further to 5–14 mph.
Mother Nature has set up a sunny weekend with summertime warmth, ending with a breezy Sunday ahead of the Labor Day holiday, when temps are expected to return to the 90s. That will be thanks to a high-pressure system that will lock out moisture, keeping things hot and dry. It’s also likely to create some critical fire weather concerns as wildfires continue to burn in the area.
