C17 Crime Clips for Thursday, Aug. 29

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Aug. 28, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Fraud, Aug. 28, Wilson Way, GPD

A 19-year-old woman called the police at 11 a.m. to report being defrauded out of her rental deposit, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. The woman reportedly planned to move to Nebraska next month and paid her prospective landlord an $875 deposit; however, the name on the account that received the money did not match that of her landlord. The landlord then requested an additional $875 to give the 19-year-old woman the keys to the residence. She refused to pay any extra money and requested a refund, at which point the landlord blocked her and ceased communications. The investigation is ongoing.

Property destruction, Aug. 28, Rohan Avenue, GPD

Officers responded to Rohan Avenue at 12:29 p.m. to investigate a property destruction report wherein a 27-year-old woman’s door was spray-painted, Wasson said. According to the report, someone used blue spray paint to write “fake gang” on the woman’s door. The damage was estimated at $250, and the investigation is ongoing.

Breach of peace, Aug. 28, East Boxelder Road, GPD

A 37-year-old man was cited for breach of peace for his alleged involvement in a restaurant altercation on East Boxelder Road yesterday around 6:15 p.m., Wasson said. The man had been agitated with a 57-year-old man who told him to leave a woman at the bar alone. A verbal dispute ensued, after which the 37-year-old man threw a beer at the other man and they began shoving each other. The 37-year-old man was told to leave the restaurant by staff members and was trespassed from the location.

Trespassing, Aug. 28, W. 2nd Street, GPD

Officers warned a 33-year-old man for trespassing at the request of restaurant staff members on West 2nd Street around 9:06 p.m., Wasson said. The man was allegedly contacting a 19-year-old woman, an employee, and was making her feel uncomfortable.

Intoxication, Aug. 29, East Boxelder Road, GPD

A 59-year-old man was arrested for intoxication after he was reported for sleeping in an East Boxelder Road hotel hallway around 1:11 a.m., Wasson said. The man displayed obvious signs of intoxication and couldn’t sit up. He was also found to have a warrant for failing to appear in court for a separate intoxication incident and was subsequently taken into custody.
