GILLETTE, Wyo. — Critical fire weather conditions are expected across Campbell County today, with the southern portion of the county also falling inside a red flag warning.
Hot, dry and breezy conditions will combine to create the hazard today, according to the National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota. A strong cold front is expected to cross northeast Wyoming tonight and Thursday.
Today, the NWS in Rapid City is calling for a high of 77 degrees under sunny skies. Winds will come from the southwest at 14–20 mph with gusts reaching 32 mph. Tonight will remain mostly clear as the low falls to around 45. Winds will come from the north at 13–18 mph. Gusts of up to 31 mph are expected.
Sunny skies are forecast for the rest of the week and into the weekend. Temperatures will remain lower Thursday thanks to the cold front, but temperatures will return to the mid- and low 80s after it quickly passes through the area. Clear skies overnight are also forecast.
