GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Aug. 27, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Property destruction, Aug. 27, Tepee Street, GPD
A 13-year-old boy was cited for property destruction after being identified as the suspect responsible for spray-painting a daycare school bus and for other property destruction reports in the area, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. Officers identified the boy after surveillance showed him spray-painting the bus a second time and issued him five citations around 8:04 a.m.
Trespassing, Aug. 27, East Lakeway Road, GPD
Officers responded to Sage Valley Junior High School around 9:21 a.m. to trespass two 15-year-old boys and a 16-year-old boy who allegedly threw a birdbath from the school roof, Wasson said. There was minimal damage to the concrete sidewalk, and the report didn’t specify where the birdbath came from.
Property destruction, Aug. 27, Church Avenue, GPD
Officers were dispatched to Church Avenue for a report of juveniles throwing rocks at a mobile home, Wasson said. A 10-year-old boy, a 10-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy were identified as suspects. They were reportedly upset with the mobile home resident, who had denied their request to play on a trampoline. No citations were issued, though the property manager intends to seek civil restitution for damages.
Drugs, Aug. 27, Camel Drive, GPD
A 16-year-old boy was cited for using a controlled substance after staff called to report he was potentially impaired at Campbell County High School around 1:27 p.m., Wasson said. The boy allegedly admitted to using a dab pen and a vaping device during lunch. He turned over the vaping device, and he was cited for having it while under the age of 21.
Fraud, Aug. 27, South Garner Lake Road, GPD
A 23-year-old woman called the police at 2:11 p.m. from South Garner Lake Road to report suspected fraud, Wasson said. The woman said she called a number for a local energy company to pay her bill. The person who answered said the company could not help her but offered his private services as an alternative. The woman paid the man over $200 but called the police after her natural gas was cut off for nonpayment and learned the money had never been applied to the account. The investigation is ongoing.
Drugs, Aug. 27, Skyline Drive, CCSO
Deputies arrested a 32-year-old man for felony drug possession following a Skyline Drive traffic stop around 11:20 p.m., Sheriff’s Office Lt. Paul Pownall said. The man was stopped for speeding, and a drug dog reportedly indicated there were drugs in the vehicle, resulting in a search. Deputies located several fentanyl pills and a small amount of marijuana. After he was taken into custody and transported to the detention center, the 32-year-old man admitted he had more drugs on his person. He reportedly turned over 36 fentanyl pills and 3.9 grams of suspected cocaine. He was charged with two counts of felony drug possession.
