GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Gillette College Pronghorns hosted their first home games of the season for men’s and women’s soccer in a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon.

While an exciting kickoff to the teams’ fall seasons, Thursday’s results were anything but. Both teams dropped their match to visiting teams with a high goal differential.

The men’s team fell 5–0 to the Snow College Badgers, with goaltender Ivan Sandoval allowing five goals on seven shots in 90 minutes between the posts. Play in front of Sandoval wasn’t too clean, either: Through the match, seven yellow cards were assessed, with four going to Pronghorns.

The majority of cards came in the pivotal second half, where a manageable 2–0 deficit grew to a 5–0 tailspin. Snow College swapped goalies mid-game, relieving keeper Mathias Christensen at the 25-minute mark. Goalie Sam Banfi picked up the win, logging three saves in his 65 minutes played.

The team will next face Mohave Community College at home on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 9 a.m.

On the women’s side, the Pronghorns avoided a shutout but were similarly outgunned, dropping their home opener against the Seward County Lady Saints 4–1. The Lady Saints scored four unanswered goals on Gillette’s Addy Harris. Harris played all 90 minutes in goal for the Pronghorns, making five saves on nine shots.

Shot-taking for Gillette was low for the team, as Maddyn Walker and Brooke Dunham were the sole shooters per final game stats. Walker and Dunham combined for three shots, with one shot on goal apiece. Dunham made her shot count, scoring for the Pronghorns in the 87th minute of the game.

The team will next play on Saturday, Aug. 24 in an away game against Park University.
