UPDATE, 4:54 p.m.: I-90 has now reopened between Buffalo and Gillette, according to a Facebook post from WYDOT District Four, though some areas may have reduced speed limits.

GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Transportation will keep Interstate 90 closed between Gillette and Buffalo, the agency said in a Facebook post Thursday afternoon.

Fires blazing across Campbell and Johnson counties have impacted safety to travel on the road, the agency said. An uptick in winds and hot spots along the roadway have resulted in poor visibility along the interstate, forcing the agency to close the road.

Alternate east–west travel between the two cities should be taken on US 14/16 from Buffalo, Sheridan or Gillette, WYDOT said. Updates will be posted to their website.
