Highway 59 north reopening, evacuations still in place, Campbell County Emergency Management says

GILLETTE, Wyo. — In an update on previous orders, all current evacuation and evacuation readiness orders currently in place will remain overnight Thursday.

UPDATE: 5:29 p.m. Thursday, August 22

Campbell County Emergency Management has announced that all existing evacuation orders for areas around Gillette will remain in place overnight, the county said in a Facebook post. Based upon fire activity during the day Thursday, all orders to evacuate or to be prepared to do so will remain in place overnight, the post said.

2:45 p.m. Thursday, August 22

The Campbell County Emergency Management team announced via Facebook that Highway 59 north from Garner Lake Road will now be reopening.

Evacuation orders put in place for the Weston Hills Recreation Area are still in effect, the group said. Pre-evacuation orders for being prepared to evacuate remain in place as the Campbell County Fire Department continues to monitor the fire situation across town.

As noted in previous fire coverage, Emergency Management is advising residents not to wait for official evacuation orders to move to safety if they see an imminent threat from fire and to be prepared to evacuate.
