UPDATE: The Campbell County School District said that all schools with the exception of Wright and Little Powder School will remain open today after the two-hour start delay.

GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Campbell County School District announced a two-hour start delay on Thursday morning due to area wildfire activity.

The delay affects all schools in the district except for Wright, they said.

“We are now assessing the situation and will provide more information at about 8 a.m.,” they added.

The delay comes just days after the start of the new school year in the district.

Multiple agencies including the BLM are working on at least two wildfires that authorities say were sparked by lightning on Wednesday. Interstate 90 between Gillette and Buffalo is closed as of 6:30 a.m. due to the fires, according to WYDOT. Pre-evacuation notices were issued last night.
