GILLETTE, Wyo. — Back-to-school time can bring out a studious mood in everyone, and the Rockpile Museum in Gillette is giving local geography buffs a chance to test their knowledge in a new contest.

The museum challenge includes a list of 75 clues to the names of cities and towns in Wyoming, including those that may no longer exist.

According to a Facebook post announcing the contest, the current list adds additional clues to a list that was originally created by Laramie Junior High counselor Bill Martin.

Clues range from the more obvious, such as “Razor City,” to the obscure, with hints like “Sheriff that killed Billy The Kid” or “Joe Pickett’s hometown,” requiring a bit more local history knowledge.

Guessers have until midnight Thursday to send in their guesses to be entered in a drawing. Drawing winners earn a prize from the Rockpile Museum Store. Completed answer sheets can be dropped off at the museum in person or sent via email.

Those who are truly stumped also have the option to send in a $2 donation to the Rockpile Museum Association to receive an answer key. To access the clue list or learn more about sending in a donation, click here.
