GILLETTE, Wyo. — Yellowstone National Park announced its visitation statistics for July earlier this week, and numbers are up for the park compared to July last year.
In a press release, the park shared visitor numbers for July, with a total of 992,352 recreation visits for the month. The summer months are the busiest time of year for Yellowstone, the park said, with millions of people visiting between June and August every year.
The July numbers are 2% higher than visitor numbers from July 2023 but down 8% from July 2021, which marked the first year the park operated fully after being closed for several months in 2020 due to COVID-19. Overall visitation numbers also had an uptick in 2021 before slightly decreasing in the following two years.
Year-to-date visitation for 2024 tops recent years at 2.6 million visits to the park thus far. Numbers in 2022 were negatively impacted by historic flooding that closed the park for a week in mid-June.
As always, the park advises those interested in visiting during peak summer months to plan ahead and stay up to date on all road closures and conditions by using the resources available on its website.
