CASPER, Wyo. — A Mazda SUV moved improperly as it traveled along Interstate 80 just west of Green River on Saturday morning, according to a press release from the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

That was a 170-pound mistake.

A trooper pulled the vehicle over for a traffic stop near milepost 89 and the western off-ramp of Flaming Gorge Way. As he approached, he smelled marijuana emanating from the SUV, at which point he ordered the three occupants out of it and told them to sit in the ditch by the road, the release said.

The backseat passenger tried to run, but was unsuccessful as other law enforcement agencies that had been called to the scene caught the suspect.

Meanwhile, troopers found 170 pounds of marijuana in the SUV

The three suspects were arrested and taken to jail.

The press release did not identify the suspects nor the charges.

In the press release, the Wyoming Highway Patrol thanked the Green River Police Department and the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.
