CASPER, Wyo. — A teen from Minnesota died last week after colliding with a commercial trailer near Hulett.

According to a Wyoming Highway Patrol initial report, the motorcycle was on WY 24 around 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, negotiating a series of curves before entering a hard right-hand, downhill curve. The bike then crossed the center line and hit the left rear wheels of a commercial trailer.

The WHP says witnesses indicated the possibility of loss of steering control before the collision.

Minnesota resident Gina Schaffer, 18, died in the crash. She was wearing a helmet, according to the WHP.

According to the Monticello Times, Schaffer was traveling in Wyoming with her family after graduating as a valedictorian from high school with her twin sister. She had been planning to attend Daytona State College for culinary management, the newspaper said, and hoped to someday own a café that employs people with special needs.
