GILLETTE, Wyo. — A mostly sunny and hot Tuesday could see a severe thunderstorm or two as the evening approaches.
The National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, is warning of a level 2 of 5 risk for severe weather this afternoon and evening in Gillette. Hazards are most likely to include strong winds and large hail. The day will start off mostly sunny, with the mercury working its way to 92 degrees. A 20% chance for storms appears after 3 p.m. and ramps up to 60% as evening comes. Overnight, storm chances drop again to 20% as the low falls to around 58.
Wednesday will start off much cooler with a high of 76 degrees even as skies remain mostly sunny. A 20% chance for showers and thunderstorms comes into play again after noon and increases to 50% overnight. Winds will come from the north at 14–16 mph throughout the day. The forecast low is 51.
Much-needed rain is likely to continue on Thursday, which starts with a 60% chance for showers. With the cloud cover, rain and northeast winds, the forecast high is just 61 degrees. Rain chances will fall to around 40% by afternoon, and further to 30% as the evening comes. The low overnight will be near 47.
By Friday morning, rain chances fall to around 20% and by noon most showers should be wrapped up to leave a mostly cloudy day. The high will be near 68. Storm chances resume Friday night as the low falls to around 50, according to the forecast.
Gillette could see rain and thunderstorms through Monday. Saturday will see a high of 77, followed by 81 on Sunday and 80 on Monday. All three days will be mostly sunny. Night skies will be somewhat cloudy with lows in the mid-50s.
