GILLETTE, Wyo. — In its only summer meeting before the start of the school year, the Campbell County School Board deliberated over the budget proposal for 2024–25. Budget projections included a modest increase in the district’s general fund, as well as a few notable money moves to cover costs and boost revenue in certain areas.

The budget proposal document included over 30 pages of graphs, spreadsheets and written suggestions. The general fund, which is the largest chunk of the overall revenues, would increase 5.22% to a total of $156,777,396.95.

Included in the general fund expenditures are two moves for teacher benefits and district nutrition services. First, the document stated $26,500 would be transferred from the general fund to the Fund 20 Grant Special Revenue to cover the costs of benefits on national teacher certification salaries.

A majority of the general fund goes toward salaries, accounting for 61.4% of the fund. When adding on the associated cost of benefits to salaries, that percentage jumps to 86.9%.

A scheduled transfer is also on the menu for Nutrition Services, which will receive just over $1 million. For the upcoming school year, a $0.25 increase in school meal prices will generate an estimated $250,000. Another price increase is also possible for the following school year, according to the document.

Overall, the budget balances itself out, with both total revenues and expenditures coming in at a matching figure of about $292 million.
