GILLETTE, Wyo. — Gillette residents will need to navigate a series of road and facility restrictions starting Monday while the 2024 International Pathfinder Camporee is in town.
The first restrictions take effect on Aug. 5, affecting public access to CAM-PLEX Park and Area 59. The park will close each day at 4 p.m. from Monday through Thursday, according to the joint-entity camporee informational website Inform Gillette.
On Friday, Aug. 9, the park will close at 4 p.m. and remain closed until sunrise on Sunday, Aug. 11, Inform Gillette says, adding that Area 59 will be closed to the public from 8:30 a.m. through 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9.
Additional closures and access restrictions will take effect starting Tuesday, Aug. 6, for the Gillette College Pronghorn Center, Sage Valley Junior High School Planetarium, Energy Capital Sports Complex, Thunder Basin High School soccer fields, Campbell County Aquatic Center and Campbell County Recreation Center.
According to Inform Gillette, nearly all closures will run from the early morning hours on Aug. 6 through the late afternoon hours on Aug. 9, though limited public access will be allowed in the ECSC and Recreation Center.
Early morning and evening visitors to the ECSC will still have access before 8 a.m. and after 5 p.m. Between those times; however, all facilities including the practice fields and splash park will remain closed to the public, per Inform Gillette.
Recreation Center–goers will have to navigate limited public access starting Tuesday from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Limited access on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will run from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Inform Gillette says.
During limited access, the public may not utilize the field house, gymnasium, climbing wall, pool and team locker rooms, as well as two racquetball courts. Public access will remain available for all normal business hours for the upstairs section, free weight areas, fitness rooms and two other racquetball courts, according to Inform Gillette.
Open swim hours at the Recreation Center from 6 to 8 p.m. will take the place of the regularly scheduled free swim sessions during Camporee week, though access will be limited to pool capacity.
Roads
Several road closures and detours will also take effect starting Aug. 6, according to Inform Gillette.
Destination Drive will be closed to through traffic from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7 for a mobile food pantry, Inform Gillette says.
The northernmost lane of Boxelder Road from Mint Avenue to Garner Lake Road will close from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with two-way traffic to be maintained in the southernmost lanes, per Inform Gillette.
A section of Garner Lake Road will close from noon on Aug. 6 through 6 a.m. Aug. 11. Inform Gillette says northbound vehicle detour options redirect traffic onto Butler Spaeth Road to Highway 51 and Boxelder Road west to Butler Spaeth Road or Highway 59.
Southbound passenger vehicles on Garner Lake Road may divert on Highway 51 to Butler Spaeth Road or Interstate 90 west to Highway 59, both routes turning south, according to Inform Gillette.
For northbound Garner Lake Road truck traffic, drivers may take Southern Drive west to Highway 50, north on Highway 50 to Interstate 90, then east to exits 128 and 129 or continue on Interstate 90, Inform Gillette says.
Southbound Garner Lake Road truck traffic can proceed west on Interstate 90 to Highway 50, south on Highway 50 to Southern Drive to Highway 59, then south on Highway 59, per Inform Gillette.
