August rolls in with hot, sunny summer days for Gillette

GILLETTE, Wyo. — August has arrived, and with it comes clear skies, plenty of sun and temperatures in the 90s.

The National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, has forecast a high of 94 today with a light and variable breeze from the north at around 6 mph. Tonight’s skies will remain mostly clear as the low drops to around 63.

Not much will change for Friday and Saturday, except temps will be higher. Friday’s forecast high is 98, marking the warmest day of the forecast period. That’ll be followed by 96 on Saturday. Friday night will be mostly clear while Saturday night will be mostly cloudy. Lows will be in the mid-60s.

The forecast calls for partly sunny skies on Sunday, though that won’t stop the high from climbing to around 94 degrees. That’ll be accompanied by a 20% chance for afternoon thunderstorms and a south wind at 11–15 mph. Storm chances continue into Sunday night as the low falls to around 61.

Cooler weather is expected next week as the forecast high for a sunny Monday is 88. Tuesday will see a high near 87 with potential storm chances, followed by 79 on Wednesday with continued storm chances. Overnight lows will be dropping into the high 50s, according to the forecast.
