GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, July 30, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Property destruction, July 29, Blue Avenue, GPD

Officers were dispatched to Blue Avenue around 11:50 a.m. to investigate a property destruction report, Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. A 44-year-old man said someone broke out the driver’s-side window of a 1995 Chevrolet. The damage was estimated at around $500, and the investigation is ongoing.

Crash, July 29, East Sinclair Street, GPD

A 19-year-old girl was transported to the hospital after she was involved in a minor motorcycle crash on East Sinclair Street around 11:55 a.m., Wasson said. The woman was riding as a passenger on a 25-year-old man’s 1999 Yamaha motorcycle. The man told officers his brakes malfunctioned and brought the bike to a complete stop, resulting in him laying it over. The man was cited for operating a motorcycle without a proper license endorsement and no insurance.

Death, July 29, Chad Road, CCSO

Deputies responded to the report of an unresponsive woman on Chad Road in Wright around 8 p.m., Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. According to the report, a man came home to find his wife, 67, unresponsive and called for emergency aid. Deputies, firefighters and emergency medical services responded to the scene and conducted life-saving measures. The woman was ultimately pronounced deceased, and no foul play is suspected.

Dog bite, July 29, Collins Avenue, GPD

A 67-year-old man was taken to the hospital by private vehicle after he was reportedly bitten on both hands by his neighbor’s dog on Collins Avenue around 9:42 p.m., Wasson said. The man said he was walking to his vehicle with his dog when the neighbor’s dog attacked. The dogs began fighting and the man was bitten by the neighbor’s dog while trying to separate them. He sustained scrapes on his knees from the gravel as well. Animal control officers will be continuing the investigation.

Intoxication, July 30, South Emerson Avenue, GPD

A 37-year-old man was arrested for intoxication after officers found him sleeping in an apartment complex laundry room on South Emerson Avenue, Wasson said. It was the fourth time officers contacted the man that night, having responded to reports of him arguing with his 32-year-old wife. He was told to leave her alone multiple times and tried to break in when she locked him out. When officers found him in the laundry room, the man was highly intoxicated and officers took him into custody.

Suspicious activity, July 30, South Douglas Highway, GPD

Officers responded to a bar on South Douglas Highway around 2:12 a.m. today for a report of a broken drive-through window, Wasson said. When they arrived, officers cleared the building and didn’t find anyone inside, though several items were taken. The investigation is ongoing.

Death, July 30, Cedar Hills Drive, CCSO

A 64-year-old man died early this morning after calling 911 for help while stating he couldn’t breathe on Cedar Hills Drive around 4:38 a.m., Reynolds said. The man was unresponsive when emergency personnel arrived on the scene. Life-saving measures were taken but to no avail, and the man was pronounced deceased.
