GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette over the weekend, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office. 

Shoplifting, July 26, South Douglas Highway, GPD

A 23-year-old man was arrested on a warrant after allegedly shoplifting $20 in merchandise from a department store on South Douglas Highway around 10:23 p.m. July 26, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. The man reportedly fled from staff and threw one of the stolen items at a police vehicle. He then stopped, and officers cited him after he admitted to shoplifting.

Indecent exposure, July 28, South Douglas Highway, GPD

Officers responded to a department store parking lot on South Douglas Highway after a 40-year-old woman called to report a man exposed himself to her around 1:08 p.m. July 27, Wasson said. The man reportedly drove by the woman while she was walking in the parking lot. As he drove by, the woman saw the man exposing himself with his pants down. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle.

Property destruction, July 28, Highway 14-16, GPD

A 40-year-old man was arrested for felony property destruction after he allegedly broke out a vacant room window at a hotel on Highway 14-16 around 7:20 a.m. July 28, Wasson said. According to the report, the man reportedly argued with his wife and asked hotel staff what room she was staying in. He broke the window after hotel staff gave him a vacant room number, resulting in $3,000 in damage.

Burglary, July 28, B Bar L Lane, CCSO

Deputies responded to a burglary report on B Bar L Lane around 10:36 a.m., Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. A 34-year-old man reported multiple tools stolen from his residence. As of July 29, the exact value of the stolen items was unavailable, and the investigation is ongoing.

Shoplifting, July 28, South Douglas Highway, GPD

Department store staff called the police at 5:11 p.m. to report a man attempted to steal $200 in merchandise by scanning the wrong barcode, Wasson said. The man reportedly scanned a 58-cent tag instead of the correct bar codes before loss prevention staff attempted to contact him. He left, but officers located him on North Gurley Avenue and cited him for shoplifting.
