GILLETTE, Wyo. — A Friday afternoon plane crash north of Gillette has taken the lives of three members of the popular music group the Nelons Gospel Group, according to reports. Four others also passed away in the incident.
The band members killed in the crash are Jason Clark, Kelly Nelon Clark and Amber Kistler. Kistler’s husband, Nathan, and band assistant Melodi Hodges were also killed, as were pilot Larry Haynie and Haynie’s wife, Melissa, according to reporting from The New York Times.
The band was en route to perform on a cruise that was scheduled to set sail today, according to a statement by Gaither Management Group, which represented the band.
A wildfire was sparked in the area following the crash, and first responders attacked the blaze from all sides, using planes and heavy equipment to contain it.
