UPDATE, 7/26/2024: The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed fatalities in a plane crash reported north of Gillette. According to Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds, the National Transportation Safety Board is responding to investigate and additional details will come through the federal agency. Reynolds could not provide identifying information for anyone involved in the crash.
GILLETTE, Wyo. — A plane crash was reported north of Gillette on Friday afternoon. The Federal Aviation Administration office in Casper contacted the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office to report the crash at 1:06 p.m., according to Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds.
Reynolds confirmed there was a reported plane crash near Gillette approximately 20–30 miles north of the airport. Deputies responding to the scene reported a visible smoke column from the site of the crash.
The Campbell County Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene. At this time, the number of people on board the plane and possible fatalities have not been confirmed, Reynolds said.
A wildfire was sparked in the area following the crash. This is a developing story and information may change as more details become available.
