GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, July 25, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Vehicle Fire, July 25, Hwy 59 and Hwy 387, CCSO
Deputies responded to reports of a vehicle fire near the intersection of Highway 59 and Highway 387 and observed a semi tractor trailer pulling a water tank with an engine completely engulfed in flames. Deputies coordinated with Campbell County Fire and BLM Fire units responding to the scene and assisted in blocking southbound traffic. Wyoming Highway Patrol began an investigation of the incident upon their arrival and no further action was taken by CCSO deputies.
Mail Tampering, July 25, Hilltop Circle, GPD
A 66-year-old man contacted the Gillette Police Department to report suspected mail tampering after receiving tat-related documents in the mail. The man received the envelope of documents from a CPA out of Arizona that he had worked with previously, he said, but the envelope appeared opened. The packaging contained additional layers of tape over the exterior as if it had been opened and resealed, and while the inside contained a note saying the documents within required his signature, no additional documents were in the envelope. Attempts have been made to contact the CPA, and the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
False Identification, July 25, S. Douglas Hwy GPD
Employees at Good Times Discount Liquor contacted GPD after a suspicious-looking license was displayed to employees in an attempted liquor purchase at the drive-through window at 8:22 Thursday evening. The ID was determined to be a fake and was seized. The customer who showed it, a 17-year-old boy, was cited for Minor Alcohol Violation and his parents were notified.
