CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A loaded cannon and 18th century muskets pierced the battlefield Saturday afternoon in presentations of historical events.
As part of the first weekend of Cheyenne Frontier Days, F.E. Warren Air Force Base is hosting its Fort D.A. Russell Days. The outdoors event includes historical reenactments of the American Revolution, displays on horseback from cavalry groups and a live demonstration from a Navy parachute team.
For one demonstration, six men rode in unity to show off traditional cavalry riding drills once practiced by the African American Buffalo Soldiers. In a separate display, a dozen soldiers fashioned in 18th century military outfits wielded muskets for a firing display. The actors then faced one another on the battlefield in a gripping quarrel between the Americans and British forces.
Visitors at one point looked up high into the sky to witness members of the U.S. Navy Parachute Team glide through the clouds.
More demonstrations will be up and running for Russell Days on Sunday. To see the full list of events for Russell Days, click here.
