GILLETTE, Wyo.— While Campbell County has no air quality alerts in effect, smoke from Canadian wildfires will continue to move through the area this weekend, along with possible thunderstorms.
Saturday temperatures will top out around 86 degrees in Gillette with mostly sunny skies. Air quality remains relatively clear with an Air Quality Index of 54. No air quality alerts have been issued for the area, but hazy skies may continue as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to drift south. The National Weather Service in Bismarck, North Dakota, forecasts that much of eastern Wyoming will have smoke coverage overhead through Sunday.
A video posted to the service’s X — formerly known as Twitter — account Saturday morning shows much of the state as well as Montana and South Dakota will be dealing with the smoke, noting that while much of the smoke was high up in the atmosphere, it was possible some could filter down near the surface and cause potential visibility issues.
Temperatures remain hot under full sun going into the work week, with mid-80s temperatures beginning a sharp upward climb into the week. Triple digits are possible as the week progresses, with Thursday currently forecasting a high temperature of 100 degrees.
