GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Gillette Children’s Memorial Garden will be hosting its annual Remembrance Ceremony to honor the memory of deceased children this Monday, July 15.
The event will feature a poetry reading by Deanna Scalzo, who founded the Children’s Memorial Garden following the death of her daughter Madison in a 2006 car accident. The garden, located at the intersection of North Brooks Avenue and East Warlow Drive, will host the event.
The garden also features paving bricks that have been engraved with the names of children and purchased by their families. Those interested in purchasing a brick to add to the garden can do so by calling the City Administrator’s office for the necessary paperwork.
Families will gather for the reading of poetry and a list of names of the deceased before a butterfly release. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Monday with a welcome from Gillette Mayor Shay Lundvall. The event is free to attend and open to the public.
