GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, July 11, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Drugs, July 11, Chad Road, CCSO
While serving a warrant on an iPhone, officers noted the smell of marijuana at the residence on Chad Road where the warrant was being served. A secondary warrant to search the residence yielded 28 grams of marijuana. A 37-year-old woman at the residence was arrested and transported.
Eluding/Fleeing, July 11, Gold Road and Carter Avenue, CCSO
A 51-year-old man driving a 2015 Ram 1500 attempted to flee a traffic stop in the area of Gold Road and Carter Avenue just before midnight Thursday. After initially stopping for deputies, he accelerated and sped down the road for nearly half a mile before coming to a stop. The man, who had a California address, had no ID and had several outstanding warrants out of South Dakota. He was taken into custody, and a female passenger who was in the vehicle at the time was released at the scene.
Minor in Consumption of Alcohol, Camel Drive, July 11, GPD
A 17-year-old boy was pulled over by Gillette police officers for failing to use a turn signal while driving on Camel Drive at 6:34 a.m. Also in the car was another 17-year-old boy and two female passengers aged 18 and 16. Officers detected the smell of alcohol in the vehicle, a 2005 Buick. All four were cited for minor in consumption. The driver was additionally cited for driving without a license, and the other boy in the car was found to have a failure to pay warrant for a previous minor in consumption charge.
Theft from Auto, July 11, GPD
A 44-year-old man contacted the GPD Thursday morning to report a theft from his vehicle, a 2014 Ram truck. The man reported that his handgun, which was normally stored in the truck, was missing and had been for approximately one week. The gun, a 10mm Smithfield handgun, does not have an estimated value at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
