GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, July 8, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Crash, July 8, Highway 50, CCSO
Deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 50 near Savageton around 6:36 a.m. in which a vehicle crashed into a pasture, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. A 29-year-old man was northbound on his way to work when he reportedly fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle entered the oncoming lane when the man awoke and overcorrected, losing control of the vehicle and leaving the roadway. The crash investigation was turned over to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
Theft, July 8, East Sinclair Street, GPD
Officers were dispatched to East Sinclair Street around 8:32 a.m. for a report of someone unlawfully using a credit card, according to Gillette Police Cpl. Dan Stroup. A 46-year-old man told officers a former employee, a 22-year-old man, had used the company card to purchase fuel for his privately owned vehicle. The 22-year-old allegedly spent $620 and was cited for unlawful use of a credit card.
Crash, July 8, Edwards Street, GPD
An 18-year-old man was transported to the hospital for a head injury sustained when he crashed an unregistered 2024 Kawasaki motorcycle into a 2020 Jeep on Edwards Street around 2:23 p.m., Stroup said. The 18-year-old reportedly attempted to pass the Jeep but struck the rear driver’s side of the vehicle, resulting in over $1,000 in damage to the Jeep but no injuries to the 23-year-old driver. The 18-year-old was cited for careless driving, no insurance, no valid license, no registration and displaying a false license plate.
Theft, July 8, Wolf Road, GPD
A 34-year-old man called the police at 8:14 p.m. to report his $350 orange and gray Sun Dolphin kayak stolen from the back of his 2004 Ford pickup, Stroup said. The kayak was stolen between noon July 7 and 6 p.m. July 8. There are no suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.
Crash, July 8, Bittercreek, CCSO
A 19-year-old man was life-flighted to Rapid City, South Dakota, after he was ejected from a motorcycle on Bittercreek Road around 11:51 p.m., Reynolds said. The man was riding as a passenger on a 2011 Yamaha motorcycle operated by a 20-year-old man. Both men were ejected when the motorcycle entered a ditch, resulting in minor injuries for the 20-year-old and severe head trauma for the 19-year-old.
