CANYON VILLAGE, Wyo. — The man who opened fire in Yellowstone National Park before being killed in a shootout with rangers on July 4 has been identified as Florida resident Samson Lucas Bariah Fussner.
Fussner was a 28-year-old who lived in Milton, Florida, according to the Park County Coroner’s Office.
Fussner was at the heart of an incident that occurred at Canyon Village in central Yellowstone overnight on July 3 and into the following morning. Rangers responded to the area after learning that a man with a gun was making threats, the park said. When rangers contacted him, they and Fussner exchanged gunfire.
According to a release from the Park County Sheriff’s Office, more details will be released following an investigation headed by the sheriff’s office, the FBI and the National Parks Service.
