Cloudy weekend ahead before searing heat arrives next week

GILLETTE, Wyo. — This weekend will bring mild temperatures and cloudy weather to Gillette before a heat wave later in the week.

Saturday temps will top out at 76 degrees with clouds staying put through the afternoon and into the evening. Winds are expected to pick up slightly around 4 p.m.

On Sunday, the sun will peek though partly cloudy skies, accompanying slightly lower temperatures and a high of 72 degrees in the early afternoon. Heading into the work week, full sun returns as temperatures begin to climb into the 90s. Monday’s high of 81 degrees is the coolest Gillette will be for quite some time, with the heat maxing out at 98 next weekend.

Chances of thunderstorms are possible through the week, with the National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, issuing a hazardous weather outlook for Campbell County. Scattered storms are possible today, the agency said, but they would most likely not develop into any serious or severe weather. Read the full outlook report here.
