C17 Crime Clips for Tuesday, July 2

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, July 1, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Drugs, July 1, East 5th Street, GPD

A 29-year-old man arrived at the police department around 10:57 a.m. to reportedly turn himself in, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. Officers confirmed the man had no active warrants and was not related to any active investigations, but the man said he had meth and cocaine on him. During a consent search, officers located a gram of meth and less than a gram of cocaine on his person. He was charged with two counts of drug possession.

Drugs, July 1, East 8th Street, GPD

Officers responded to East 8th Street for a report of a 43-year-old woman being struck by a 63-year-old man around 2:04 p.m., Wasson said. The woman was clad in a nightgown and officers allowed her to sit in the back of a patrol unit for privacy. While in the vehicle, the woman told officers there was a baggie of meth that wasn’t hers. Officers learned the woman was squatting in a shed and conducted a search, locating several baggies identical to the one in the patrol unit. The woman was arrested for unlawful possession of a controlled substance. The 63-year-old man denied any physical altercation between himself and the woman.

Theft, July 1, South Emerson Avenue, GPD

A 39-year-old man called the police to South Emerson Avenue around 3:39 p.m. to report items missing from his vehicle, Wasson said. The man said a black backpack containing a $1,600 laptop was stolen from his 2016 Buick. He suspected his children left the backpack in his vehicle unsecured. The investigation is ongoing.

Medical, July 1, Mahogany Circle, GPD

Officers were dispatched to Mahogany Circle at 5:26 p.m. after a 76-year-old woman reported finding her 53-year-old son unresponsive in his vehicle, Wasson said. The man was unresponsive when officers arrived and his breathing was labored. While officers were there, the man stopped breathing. Officers began chest compressions and administered Narcan. The man was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Property destruction, July 1, West Boxelder Road, CCSO

Deputies responded to the Campbell County Detention Center at 10:32 p.m. for a report of a 26-year-old man flooding his cell, Sheriff’s Office Lt. Paul Pownall said. The man reportedly broke a sprinkler head because another inmate challenged him to. He was charged with property destruction, though an estimate of the amount of damage was not available at the time of the report.

DWUI, July 2, West 2nd Street, CCSO

A 38-year-old man was arrested for impaired driving after deputies stopped him for speeding near West 2nd Street and South Burma Avenue shortly after midnight, Pownall said. The man was astride a purple Harley-Davidson motorcycle and admitted to driving from a bar after consuming beer. He was arrested after failing field sobriety tests.
