GILLETTE, Wyo. — A 6-year-old Gillette girl died in an ATV crash Thursday afternoon, according to the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
The girl, identified by Campbell County Coroner Paul Wallem as Elizabeth C. Garner, was run over by an ATV near Gold Buckle Drive and Highway 51 west of Rozet. Deputies responded to calls just after 1:30 p.m. Thursday reporting that a child had been run over by an ATV, according to the report from the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Lifesaving measures were taken on the scene by deputies and were taken over by EMS once they arrived before transporting Garner to the emergency room, where she was officially pronounced deceased. Wallem said that the cause of death was multiple blunt force traumatic injuries.
The Coroner’s Office is working with the family and Donor Alliance, a transplant and organ donation organization. Whether to perform an autopsy would be discussed with the family at a later time, Wallem said.
The ATV was driven by another juvenile, Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said, but other details of the incident were unclear from multiple frantic 911 calls made on the crash.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, Reynolds said, and details such as the age and gender of the ATV driver or the specific vehicle have not yet been confirmed.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol will be taking the lead on the case and the investigation into the incident going forward. Details of this story may change as more information becomes available.
