Casper man died Monday after deer–motorcycle collision


CASPER, Wyo. — An 84-year-old Casper man died Monday after striking a deer while on his motorcycle on Highway 20/26, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol. The crash occurred shortly after 9 p.m. east of Casper on the Old Glenrock Highway. The Natrona County Sheriff’s Office is cited as the investigating agency.

According to his obituary, James Raymond Bassett had set out for “a leisurely evening ride … with no destination in mind.” The highway patrol said he was wearing a helmet.

Basset had run his own land surveying business, according to his obituary. He also loved antique firearms and the outdoors, and was active in his church.
