Plenty of sun to keep temps high in Gillette

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Warm and sunny days continue to fill the forecast for Gillette with some storm chances sprinkled in.

A couple of cooler days are forecast to end the week, which will be a welcome break as the mercury has sat between temps of 87 and 98 for the past week. That continues today with a forecast high of 85 under sunny skies. The National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, says there’s a 20% chance for afternoon thunderstorms as there will be increasing clouds after 3 p.m. Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low near 60.

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected over the next few days. Widespread severe weather will be possible on Thursday afternoon and evening, the NWS in Rapid City warned.

Thursday will bring a high of 90 to Gillette, accompanied by a 30% chance for afternoon thunderstorms that could become severe. The day will be mostly sunny with storm clouds spinning up after noon. The primary hazards with any severe storms will be very large hail and damaging wind gusts, possibly in excess of 75 mph. A tornado or two will be possible, according to the NWS in Rapid City.

A 20% chance for thunderstorms remains in the Thursday evening forecast as the low drops to around 51.

With cooler air passing through the region Thursday night, the Friday high will be near 75 under sunny skies. Clear skies will continue deep into the night as the low falls to around 44.

Saturday will also be cool with a high of 76 under sunny skies. Breezy conditions are expected overnight as warm air again pushes into the area. The low will fall to around 55, according to the forecast.

Sunday will see the high rebound to 96 as breezy conditions continue. That’ll be followed by a mostly sunny Monday with a high of 81 and a sunny Tuesday with a high of 82, if the forecast holds up.
