GILLETTE, Wyo. — Sundance Wicks, head coach of the University of Wyoming men’s basketball team, is scheduled for a meet and greet event at the Gillette Senior Center, 701 Stocktrail Ave., on Friday, June 28 at 5:30 p.m.
This spring, the Gillette native was hired as the UW men’s head basketball coach. Wicks attributes his competitive spirit to his hometown.
“It’s a gritty town that loves to compete and loves to win,” Wicks said. “That’s what I was raised in. I was raised [to learn] how to win in tough environments.”
The coach still shows hometown pride for the Gillette County Camels.
“It’s where you cut your teeth,” Wicks said. “Anyone from Gillette understands how hardworking and blue-collar of a town it is.”
The coach hopes to rally fans for the UW Cowgirls and Cowboys through a meet-and-greet-style event.
“It’s been a while since someone’s been to Gillette, so I’m going to go up there and show love to my hometown,” Wicks said.
The meet and greet event will feature food and drinks.
