GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Campbell County Fire Department extinguished a structure fire affecting a single residence on Hill Valley Road northeast of Gillette on June 19. According to a release from the department, there were no injuries.

A neighbor was the first to notice and report the fire before the multi-station effort to put the fire out began. According to the release, the fire spread from the residence’s front porch, eventually engulfing the nearby vehicle.

The neighbor also alerted the two residents and retrieved multiple household pets from the structure. The release states that it’s thanks to the rapid response from multiple fire stations and the actions of the neighbor that there were no reported injuries.

The residence and vehicle, however, were deemed to be completely destroyed. The department reported that firefighters had to use defensive tactics due to the conditions of the fire.

According to the release, the cause of the structure fire is still being investigated.

The Campbell County Fire Department also reminded residents to be cautious and aware of what can start fires in the summer months.

“Summer is here and, with the rising temperatures, the risk of fires spreading increases. Be cautious when discarding smoking materials, engaging in open burning, welding, or any other activities that may cause sparks or ignition sources,” the department said in the release.
