Emergency lights are seen at Shober Road and Outback Lane June 14 following a fatal crash (County 17)

GILLETTE, Wyo. — A Gillette man died Friday night following a single-vehicle rollover near Shober Road and Outback Lane, according to the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.

Benjamin R. Kauranen, 19, died on June 14 after he was reportedly pinned beneath a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee following a single-vehicle rollover at the corner of Shober Road and Outback Lane around 10:25 p.m., according to Sheriff’s Office Investigations Sgt. Gary Sams.

The report did not specify whether Kauranen or one of the other occupants — both 18-year-old men — was operating the vehicle; however, Kauranen was partially ejected through the vehicle’s sunroof and was pronounced deceased at the scene, Sams said.

Campbell County Coroner Paul Wallem told reporters on June 17 that Kauranen died instantly from head trauma resulting from the crash.

According to Sams, the two 18-year-old men were transported to the hospital for evaluation. The cause of the crash is under investigation and a state crash report, when completed, will be sent to the Campbell County Attorney’s Office for review.
