Warm days ahead for Gillette before cooler system arrives next week

GILLETTE, Wyo. — High pressure will again be building over the region, bringing Gillette a warm summertime day with clear skies.

The National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, has forecast a high of 81 today. That’ll come with a northwest wind at 6–9 mph and gusts of up to 16 mph. Some clouds will roll in tonight for a partly cloudy night. Northeast winds will pick up to 10–18 mph. The low will be near 59.

Friday will be even warmer for Gillette with a high of 90. It’ll be quite a bit breezier with a south wind at 13–21 mph and gusts as high as 32 mph. There’s also a 20% chance for showers and thunderstorms between noon and 3 p.m. with a greater chance of thunderstorms after 3. That’ll carry through the evening as the low works its way down to 58. Skies should remain partly cloudy.

Saturday will see the sun come out with clear skies. The high will be near 91, according to the forecast. Saturday night will be mostly clear with a low near 49. Winds from the southwest are expected to reach 15–18 mph before turning to come from the north after midnight.

Those cooler north winds will help to limit Sunday’s high to 75 despite clear and sunny skies. Winds are expected at 10–14 mph throughout the day with increasing clouds as evening approaches. There’s a chance for overnight showers and thunderstorms as the low falls to near 47.

Storm chances stick around for the start of the work week, which will be much cooler at 65 degrees. Tuesday’s forecast high is 68, as is Wednesday’s.
