C17 Crime Clips for Thursday, June 13

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, June 12, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.  

Agency assist, June 12, Boxelder Road, GPD

Officers responded to Boxelder Road at 10:05 a.m. at the request of the Park County Sheriff’s Office, which asked the local police department to contact a 24-year-old man, GPD Cpl. Dan Stroup said. The 24-year-old had a warrant for burglary and theft and was taken into custody without incident.

Drugs, June 12, Rockpile Boulevard, GPD

At 10:30 a.m., Gillette police detectives responded to a residence on Rockpile Boulevard in response to multiple complaints of drug activity, Stroup said. Upon their arrival, detectives conducted a “knock and talk” where the occupants ultimately admitted to recent drug use and provided detectives with sufficient cause to secure a search warrant. Detectives reportedly uncovered drug paraphernalia and a small amount of suspected methamphetamine that belonged to a 46-year-old woman. They also found a 56-year-old man with a 24/7 violation arrest warrant; both he and the woman were taken into custody.

Shoplifting, June 13, South Douglas Highway, GPD

Officers responded to a business on South Douglas Highway to investigate an ongoing shoplifting incident regarding two women taking a bottle of vodka without paying around 11:44 a.m., Stroup said. The women fled in a red Dodge sedan that was found and stopped by officers. Two 30-year-old women attempted to flee after stopping behind an athletics store but were ordered back into the vehicle by officers. Surveillance showed one of the women, the driver, stealing a $16 bottle of vodka for which she was given a shoplifting citation. The other 30-year-old woman was arrested for an active parole violation warrant and failing to pay fines. A sheriff’s office drug dog indicated on the vehicle, though nothing aside from a baggie with suspected meth residue was located.

Arson, June 13, Gillette Avenue, GPD

Officers and Campbell County Fire Department personnel responded to East 1st Street and Gillette Avenue at 10:49 p.m. for a report of a flowerpot on fire, Stroup said. Given the nature of the fire, an arson investigation has been opened and is currently ongoing.
