LANDER, Wyo. — Shoshone Lake Road will remain closed until June 21 as snowdrifts continue to melt, the Bureau of Land Management announced Wednesday.

The closing of the road will also allow a construction project on the road’s switchback section to set up and begin work, the agency said in a press release. The project, made possible through funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, will address maintenance needs on the road without disruption from traffic while the road is closed.

A local contractor will surface the road and reestablish drainage to continue to allow access to publicly managed lands in the area, the release said. When the road is reopened, the BLM said the construction will allow for “some daily traffic” during the project, but delays should be expected until completion.

“Our intent with this project is to ensure that trucks and trailers can continue to access the parking area at the top of the face,” Jared Oakleaf, outdoor recreation planner for the Lander Field Office, said in a statement. “After that, the road will remain a high-clearance 4X4 route.”
