GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, May 22, obtained through law enforcement reports compiled by the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
Breach of peace, May 22, East 7th Street, GPD
Officers responded to Twin Spruce Junior High around 10:55 a.m. for a report of an unruly student, Gillette Deputy Police Chief Brent Wasson said. A 13-year-old girl was cited for breach of peace after she allegedly yelled profanities at staff and slapped a teacher’s arm.
Property destruction, May 22, Haida Lane, GPD
A 63-year-old woman called the police to a community mailbox at Bridger Street and Haida Lane around 1:30 p.m. after seeing two men attempting to break into it, Wasson said. Officers contacted a 41-year-old man and a 19-year-old man who were attempting to force their way into a box. The 41-year-old man said he lost his mail key and was told by postal staff to break the lock. A postal representative responded to the scene and declined to have charges filed. The representative only wanted the 41-year-old man to pay $45 to replace the lock.
Drugs, May 22, Highway 14-16, CCSO
Deputies arrested a 61-year-old man for drug possession following a traffic stop on a 2006 Jeep around 2:19 p.m., Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds said. The Jeep was stopped for pulling a trailer without license plates and improper vehicle registration. During the stop, a drug dog indicated on the vehicle. A subsequent search yielded less than 3 ounces of marijuana and a THC vape. The man was charged with two counts of misdemeanor drug possession, expired registration and driving under suspension.
Drugs, May 22, East Lakeway Road, GPD
A 48-year-old woman was arrested for drug possession on East Lakeway Road following a traffic stop on a 1999 Mercury, Wasson said. During the stop, a sheriff’s office drug dog indicated on the vehicle. A subsequent search yielded a syringe loaded with less than three-tenths of a gram of suspected methamphetamine.
