CASPER, Wyo. — A private plane and a freshly planted garden are fortunately the only casualties after the plane crashed near Powell on Friday, the Park County Sheriff’s Office said.

The plane lost power shortly after takeoff from a residence on Road 6, the social media release said. The pilot and his passenger were able to make an emergency landing without injury in rural Powell on Hacienda Road.

“Unfortunately, the plane and the freshly planted garden it came to a rest in were not quite as lucky,” the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies, EMS and fire personnel were immediately dispatched and the sheriff’s office completed the initial investigation. The investigation is now turned over to the FAA, per standard procedure for incidents involving aircraft.

“The plane owner made arrangements to remove the plane as it only weighed 500 pounds,” the PCSO added. “Our thanks to Powell EMS, Powell Fire and the Wyoming State Troopers for their assistance with this incident!”
