GILLETTE, Wyo. — Yesterday afternoon, deputies located and apprehended a pursuit suspect who has reportedly evaded capture multiple times since April 19, according to the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect, a 19-year-old man, was taken into custody on Heart X Avenue after he escaped from deputies in a Nissan 370Z on April 22 and was identified as the driver who evaded capture during pursuits on April 19 and April 20, Sheriff’s Office Lt. Paul Pownall said.

On April 22, deputies spotted the Nissan on Highway 59 and attempted to verify its registration. The vehicle fled at over 100 mph while weaving in and out of traffic, Pownall said, adding that it struck another vehicle while fleeing from deputies. It was located in a residential area near Tanner Drive, where the 19-year-old man pulled over to let out a passenger, an 18-year-old man, before fleeing again.

Deputies terminated the pursuit but identified the 19-year-old man as a potential suspect and deployed an unmarked sheriff’s office unit to the Heart X neighborhood. The Nissan was seen pulling into a residential garage and the 19-year-old man was taken into custody, according to Pownall.

Sheriff’s office arrest records say the 19-year-old was charged with multiple counts of reckless driving and eluding, driving under suspension, leaving the scene of a crash and possessing tobacco while under 21.
