Teen arrested following knife attack at Campbell County High School

(County 17)

GILLETTE, Wyo. — A 16-year-old boy was arrested at Campbell County High School on Wednesday morning after allegedly injuring another boy with a knife, Gillette Police Sgt. Jay Johnson said.

Officers were called to the school around 10 a.m. April 17 for a report of a 15-year-old boy being cut with a knife in a bathroom, Johnson said. The boy was in a bathroom showing a newly acquired knife to his friends when the 16-year-old boy entered and called him a profane name.

The 16-year-old left the bathroom and retrieved a knife of his own, punching the 15-year-old boy in the leg when he returned and calling him another derogatory name, per Johnson, who said the older boy began spinning the knife with a finger ring and approached the 15-year-old.

According to Johnson, the younger boy raised his arms to protect his chest and face. The knife impacted the boy’s forearm, causing a puncture wound.

The incident wasn’t the first time the two boys were at odds with each other. The investigation revealed that a couple of weeks prior, the 16-year-old boy punched the younger boy and placed him in a chokehold with witnesses present.

After consulting with the Campbell County Attorney’s Office, the 16-year-old boy was taken into custody and charged with felony aggravated assault.
