GILLETTE, Wyo. — It’s going to be warm, very warm, but don’t pack away the heavy shirts and pants just yet.
The National Weather Service in Rapid City, South Dakota, is forecasting a few days of highs in the 70s for Gillette, followed by a period of rain and then snow chances. These next few dry, warm days will bring some elevated fire weather concerns in some areas.
As high pressure continues to march east across the Rockies and over the Plains, today’s high will reach 71 under sunny skies. There’ll be a south breeze at 7–16 mph with gusts of up to 22 mph possible. Tonight’s skies will remain mostly clear as the low falls to 43.
Sunny skies will prevail Saturday and Sunday as the center of that high pressure system moves overhead. The forecast high for each day is 73, and the low each night is 42. Sunday afternoon and evening will be windy as a southwest wind at 9–14 mph increases to 17–22 mph, accompanied by 32 mph gusts. Around midnight, winds will die down to 11–16 mph.
Monday brings the first shot at rain in the forecast. It’ll still be a warm 66 degrees, but there’s a 30% chance for rain in the afternoon. Skies will otherwise be partly sunny and winds will come from the west at 10–17 mph, according to the forecast.
Rain chances increase Monday evening and into Tuesday. From an overnight low of 40, Tuesday’s high will reach 52. Where there’s no rain, skies will be partly sunny. As colder air moves into the region Tuesday night, the low will drop to around 29, leading into a chance for snow Wednesday that will last through until at least Thursday. Wednesday will see a high near 40 while Thursday’s forecast high is 37.
