CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Wyoming Highway Patrol announced the death of K-9 Bailey, a dedicated service dog, on April 8. Bailey, an English Springer Spaniel, proudly served Wyoming and its communities for eight years.
Starting his career in 2016, Bailey became a crucial part of the WHP’s efforts to combat drug trafficking. Acquired through the Rocky Mountain High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program, he displayed exemplary dedication and skill in law enforcement.
Throughout his service, the K-9 was instrumental in numerous criminal arrests and played a pivotal role in seizing illegal substances and firearms.
“He undoubtedly made a positive impact on ensuring safer communities,” the WHP stated in its announcement.
His career stats are notable with over 1,866 hours of training and 513 deployments, leading to significant seizures including 104 pounds of methamphetamine and 4,530 pounds of marijuana, among other drugs.
Bailey not only excelled in field operations but also won the hearts of those he worked with due to his friendly nature. The WHP expressed deep gratitude for his service, emphasizing that his contributions greatly enhanced community safety in Wyoming.
“He loved to work and interact with anyone he came in contact with,” the patrol said in tribute.
During his career, Bailey was responsible for the seizure of:
- 104 pounds of methamphetamine
- 2 pounds of heroin
- 1 pound of cocaine
- 4,530 pounds of marijuana
- 5 pounds of other types of drugs, including illicitly possessed pharmaceuticals
- 4 ounces of fentanyl
- $514,647 of drug proceeds
- 7 firearms
